The questions we get most, from applicants and first-timers. Don't see yours? Drop us a line.
Doubles is built for experienced founders, investors, and senior operators in SF who are tired of dating apps. The room is single, ambitious, and selective about how it spends its evenings.
We're not impressed by titles. We're impressed by people you'd actually want to sit next to at dinner.
About one in four applicants are invited to a given volume. Most rejections aren't "no" forever — they're "not this room." We re-review applicants for every subsequent event and reach out when the mix is right.
Under three minutes if you've already lined up the friend you want to bring. Your friend gets a short version of the same questionnaire by email after you apply.
Within 48 hours. If we need a day longer, we'll email you. We don't ghost applicants.
No, but they help — particularly for Vol. 01. If a current applicant or past attendee vouched for you, mention them in the application. We weight referrals heavily.
Not for Vol. 01 — the doubles format is the whole point of the founding event. Starting with Vol. 02 we'll experiment with a small number of "singles seats" each volume, capped at four people.
Doors at 6 with 30 minutes of welcome drinks & networking. The fireside (15 min) at 6:30, the Q&A (45 min) at 6:45, an open-buffet dinner party at 7:30, and we wind down by 9. Full timeline →
A thirty-minute fireside chat that opens every Doubles event. We hand-pick a founder, investor, or operator with a story worth sharing. No slides, no keynote — just real questions and audience Q&A. It's how we get the room loose without anyone having to perform.
Smart casual. Think: nice shirt, no sneakers, no full suits. The venues are beautiful — dress like you'd like to be photographed in the kitchen.
No. Name tags signal the wrong kind of event. You'll learn names the way you would at any good dinner party — by asking.
We capture a few atmospheric shots — wide rooms, table settings, the speaker — but no candid guest photos without consent. Anything featuring you specifically gets your sign-off before publication.
The doubles format is what makes the night work. Everyone arrives with a wingperson they trust, which lowers the social temperature instantly. It's how we engineer "you walk in with an ally" instead of "you walk in alone."
For Vol. 01, yes — we're piloting the founding format heterosexual. Vol. 02 onwards we'll be running same-sex and queer-friendly volumes; you can opt into the volume that fits.
Sometimes that happens — applications are reviewed independently. We'll let you both know, and you're welcome to apply again with a different partner. We do not penalize the original applicant.
Yes — that's the most common case. One of you applies first and lists the other; the second person gets the friend-side questionnaire and we close the loop.
In the homes of SF founders we trust — Twin Peaks, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill so far. The exact address is shared with confirmed guests two days before the event.
Most guests rideshare. Street parking is available but limited; we don't have valet. If you'd like a ride home included, that's a perk for Founding Members starting Vol. 02.
We confirm accessibility on a per-venue basis. There's an accessibility field on your application — fill it in and we'll proactively confirm or reroute. We've reassigned a venue once already to accommodate a guest.
Every menu has a vegetarian path by default. Allergies, kosher, halal, and other restrictions: tell us on the application and we'll confirm with the kitchen.
Vol. 01 is $145 per person and covers catering, drinks, the speaker fee, and the venue. We are not for profit on the founding volume — we're building the room.
Only after both you and your friend are confirmed. If either of you is declined, no card is charged.
Full refund up to 7 days before the event. 50% inside 7 days. No refund inside 48 hours — but you can transfer your seat to another vetted single you'd vouch for, subject to our review.
We answer every email from a real human within a day or two. If you'd rather just see the night for yourself, the application is the fastest path.
